Accuracy

Every phone microphone has a different sensitivity, so out of the box readings are indicative. Hold the phone next to a reference sound level meter, play steady noise, and the app measures the offset for your exact phone. Weighting filters follow IEC 61672-1 and averages are true energy averages.

A phone is not a certified Class 1 or Class 2 instrument and should not be used for legal measurements. The first version of the app, released in 2013, was calibrated against a Brüel & Kjær Type 2236 Class 1 meter.

Privacy

The only permission is the microphone. Audio is processed in real time and never recorded, stored or uploaded. The app has no internet access, no analytics and no ads. Privacy policy

Roadmap

Night Log In development
Leave the phone running overnight and get a morning report of noise events: when they happened, how loud, and for how long. For neighbour, sleep and rental noise problems.
Calibration for more phones Ongoing
Popular models measured against a reference microphone, so readings are accurate without setup. Until your phone is covered, calibrate it yourself in the app.
